Re: TONY CLARKE: THE BUDGET IGNORED THE NEEDS OF THE REAL ESTATE SECTOR
03/12/ 04:59:4 | by Property Developers Vietnam

Interesting article. It is well established that housing/construction is an engine that can propel growth in the economy the linkages to hundreds of industries as well as employment to millions of workers seems to have not found any priority in the FM’s budget. Overall, the budget doesn’t address the needs of the housing industry at all.

With 2010 coming around the corner the prices of property have become really competative. Great time to invest in a nice seaside villa.

Re: Harcourts makes a splash in Durban
02/11/ 05:22:4 | by Munda Willemse

Durban is Heaven on Planet Earth and this city is already competing against top cities of the world, I must say that I am in love with this city. I am a South African living in England and I used to Live in Umhlanga – Durban long time ago and even today I still have the memories of Durban, it is such a nice place I have ever seen, especially the weather in Durban is so nice and warm also beaches to name a few Umhlanga beach, Ballito Beach, Zinkwazi Beach, Umhlali Beach, Tinley Manor Beach, Thompson’s Bay Beach and I had time of my life at Sea Point – Durban. I would love to go back one day and experience the warmth and enjoy being on the soil of South Africa.

Hi Reinhard,

Olli

Unfortunately time is running out on investors for Cape Town. Although prices went slightly down recently, Cape Town and its surroundings are on the high rise. Prices have 10 folded over 8 years. South Africans can't even buy proper homes themselves.
Re: High hopes for property in cosmopolitan Cape Town

Great article. I think that the Cape Town property market is gonna grow in the next few year. With the World Cup coming more and more people are investing in property.

But instead of buying property in the usual areas, take a look at other places. For example, property in hermanus is huge at the moment.

If you look at property in the Western Cape and the rest of the country; Western Cape might get a little overrated the last few years. Prices are going up immensely. Do you think 2010 will have an even higher impact on this?

Re: Orman invests in SA
06/24/ 06:38:3 | by Colin

Here we go gathering nuts again....
Just another dream that never becomes reality.
How many nuts can we take?
Orman on Oprah lists about eight things to cut down on,
EG: Eating at restaurants, petrol, having hairdos, etc...
How now brown cow...

I suppose once these boycotted businesses go down, she will write a book telling the poor losers how to re-coup from those who floored them.
Does this not sound like Robin Hood who, while riding along, came across two peasants.
He tossed out his latest loot snatch and rode off.
As one of the peasants reached out to grab it, the other hit his hand away.
"Don't touch it!, he shouted, "As soon as we are rich, he'll be back to rob us."

Not surprisingly, at the end of the Oprah show, a warning was displayed somewhat to the following lines:
"The advice herein may not suit everyone.
Please consult your financial advisor."
Have we not heard all that before somewhere?

All of this is great is it shows that foreign investors see South Africa as a good investment deal.
It's just a shame that most of us South Africans can't invest in these properties!

Educating yourself is better than just believing Estate Agents
04/06/ 03:07:5 | by Mark

Somerset West is known to be a town with very affluent people, so I think the positioning of the new brand is well thought through. A real estate company, no matter how well known the brand, is only as good as the staff and specifically the estate agents that operate in the company.

I have personally been fed all sorts of stories from various agents associated with big brands. What was needed most of all was education. I have now recently read a fantastic book on property investing, called “You don’t have to wait for the FOR SALE sign” The sub heading is the 7 step ‘missing guide’ for property investors. I got it from www.propertyinvesting.co.za.

It truly is a fantastic book, finally somebody speaks a language I understand, no stories, just facts. Interestingly enough, the South African Property Transfer Guide (SAPTG) also supports this book.

It is highly recommended reading, educate yourself before you speak to estate agents, no matter how good the brand is that they operate under.

The saving is not just R360 per month and 2,5 years off your bond when paying R360 into your bond. You are saving R373200 at the end of the term! That is compounding! :)

Re: RAWSON LOOKS FORWARD TO A 3% DROP IN THE INTEREST RATES
12/18/ 11:04:1 | by Colin Brazendale

Great News!

But I think Rawson is very conservative. Look at what is happening all over the world. Interest rates of 0% in USA and Japan. UK to follow soon. Even Namibia is at 10% and they are pegged to SA!

They are saying inflation will be in the 3-6% target range by July 2009. So I see below 10% interest rates be end 2009. Maybe 7%.
